New cities allowing busking include San Antonio, Cleveland, and Chattanooga among others. Honorable mention includes Santa Fe, Aspen, Clearwater, and Key West.

There are bound to be some rules and regulations along the way so be on the lookout and be sure not to get caught!

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The city has launched a program to encourage performers to display their talents at designated downtown spots billed as “busk stops.”

Known as “Busk Stop Central,” the program will allow performers – including jug musicians, avant-garde mimes, tap-dancers, orange jugglers, rubber-band pluckers, bongo players, Flamenco guitarists, spoken-verse poets, Austin Powers imitators, Renaissance Fair re-enactors and other artists – to legally do their thing at specified downtown locations and receive donations from passers-by.

“Busk” refers to an old English term for street performers, known as “buskers.”

A performer must apply for a free city permit to perform at one of three designated areas, all on State Street. The busk stops are marked with medallions in the sidewalk.

This year, the festival is celebrating it's 12th season featuring buskers from coast to coast.Recognized for their unusual acts, buskers and street performers will display their unicycles, pogo sticks, juggling, aerial ballet, dance, sword swallowing, jump ropes, contortion, stunts, comedy, fire breathing, and yet even more.

The exceptional event includes a special wet and wild “Buskers After Dark” performance Saturday evening featuring a DJ, food and beer specials, and busker acts best suited for those over 18.
