Fame: 10 celebs that started off busking by BC on Dec 1, 2020
:tied: (WWW) Most people think that fame is instant - namely that through a fluke, fame comes to performers overnight. Far from the truth, it turns out that fame usually comes only after years and years of dedicated performing.

Some start out in very different themes before becoming famous. Who knew a fire eater would become James Bond or a mime become an Academy Award winner? One famous performer actually got deported from Spain for sleeping on the streets. Another got his nickname the "Beale Street Blues Boy". Can you guess who?

A closer look at fame reveals startling inconsistencies in perceptions of success. A famous comedian starts off playing banjo for lucky passers-by. Another star begins playing piano at age six. Just who will make it and who won't is written in the stars (no pun intended). Such is life.

A romantic comedy, it's yet again another love story featuring the performers. A tried and true story-line, it dates back to the silent cinema era with "The Blue Angel".

Cleveland and St. Louis open streets to buskers by BC on Aug 1, 2013
:sax: (CLEVELAND) Maurice Reedus, Jr. is one happy man since Cleveland has opened it's streets to buskers and street-performers.

Thanks to the "Sax Man" legislation, he can now blow his horn legally on the streets of Cleveland after twice being arrested this year.

"Let Freedom ring!" declared Cleveland City Councilman Joe Cimperman once the legislation was passed. "All of the major cities have lots of street performers. This is the home of the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame. This should be a musical town."

Officially, the Street-Performer's Ordinance covers, but is not limited to, "acting, singing, playing musical instruments, pantomime, juggling, magic, dancing, reciting and clowning."

Reedus is also the subject of a new movie. While everyone knows of the iconic Sax Man, few know his truly...

New program features buskers in Chattanooga by BC on Jul 3, 2016
:tiphat: (CHATTANOOGA) New liberal rules favor buskers and street performers in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Over 50 musicians have registered to participate. The musicians include guitarists, cellists, singers, keyboardists and a person who plays a didgeridoo, the wind instrument developed by indigenous Australians about 1,500 years ago.

It's all part of SoundCorps' new Sidewalk Stages program. Each of the 15 to 30 musicians who are scheduled to perform two-hour sets from Friday through Sunday is paid $25 by SoundCorps. They also get to keep any tips they make. Those tips are averaging between $40 and $70.

Buskers can perform in public places, such as sidewalks, pedestrian bridges and the parks between them. There are some minimal rules. Performing under the influence and substance abuse is not permitted.

The Beauty of Busking by BC on Dec 4, 2012
:tiphat: (TORONTO) An article at Action Coach Warren has a story on busking that may surprise most.
toronto2.jpg
In it, Warren declares his love for buskers. Citing the Toronto Buskerfest as North America's largest, he notes the requirements as being "courage, confidence, good humour and, possibly, a little insanity."

While we usually hear reports from buskers themselves, it's a rare positive review that comes from the edge. Also mentioned is the fact that busking is mostly an urban event and that the love of the city is a necessary.

As Coach Warren observes, "Busking is one of the purest expressions of the entrepreneurial spirit. Buskers work incredibly hard at their craft in an attempt to provide maximum entertainment value. In doing so, they hope to receive maximum value from their audience."
