Street buskers to fill Kolkata air this Christmas by BC on Dec 6, 2018
:busker: (INDIA) An article from the Media India Group has some insight that reveals a history of busking.

This year buskers are expected to turn the celebratory tune up a notch in Kolkata.

"India also has a rich tradition of street performers. Many renowned artists were known to be inspired by the creation of humble street musicians.

A man with a pointed mustache and colourful elaborate turban playing Ravanhatta (ancient instrument) on the streets of Jaisalmer is a common sight.

Similarly, mystic minstrels of Bengal or locally known as Bauls stroking their Dotara (musical instrument) in the shadowed streets of Shantiniketan (small town in West Bengal) are part and parcel of the cultural scene."

Indians have been busking before it became cool!

Pike Place Market bustling with buskers by BC on Oct 1, 2017
 (SEATTLE) It takes one glance any day of the week to see lots of buskers performing at Seattle, Washington's Pike Place Market. The popular and colorful water-front marketplace is alive and well.

Busker Central reporters recently visited the scene and observed that street-performers were literally on every block. Pianos, guitars, saxophones, and clarinets were all making music leaving the possibility wide open for larger circle shows. Although the pitches are now permitted, some performers had been busking the market for over 10 years.

A huge tourist mecca, Pike Place Market is also home to the first Starbucks coffee shop. The line to enjoy a cup of java was well outside the door and down the block. Beside the line, a guitarist was busy performing classic rock songs and really seemed to be enjoying himself. Down...

Philadelphia Freedom: The 10 Best Buskers and their videos by BC on Jan 1, 2014
:guitar: (PHILADELPHIA) Let's take a trip down the way to see the 10 best buskers Philly has to offer - at least that's the working theory.
00.jpg
Although some are wondering where Gregory Underwood, the U of Arts students, and the B-boys-breakers are, it's a safe bet that these street-performers represent the city well.

Relax watching the "King of the buskers" featuring street-musicians doing what they do best - covers. But not all buskers featured fall into this category. There are rappers, guitarists, hang drums, and crooners. There is hip-hop, classic folk, and upbeat, jazzy wooden flute styles.

Songs include, "Eat, sleep, sh!t, work", "Smoke on the water", “A Change Is Gonna Come”, "Counting Your Curses", and "Fanfare" among others. But don't take our word for it. Go ...

Street Arts & Busker Advocates by BC on Aug 2, 2020
:violin: (WWW) If we visit college professor Stephen Baird's Facebook page, we find lots of pictures, links, and related pages towards the pandemic-suppressed art of busking and public performing. An ex-busker, Stephen has been researching this for decades.

Of course, not all news is good news. Because of the global pandemic, buskers have been banned in several places including the New York subway where it's been a tradition for years. But in the meantime, we view Pogo Fred, the Red Trowser show, Gazzo, Woody Guthrie, Waldo and Woodhead, Will Soto, Hurdy Gurdy guys, and several others making the professor's current page.

"For as long as there has been a subway system in New York, there have been musicians decorating it with sound. However, they haven’t always been welcome. Performance Today host Fred Child t...

Naked Cowboy drops out of mayor race by BC on Sep 6, 2009
:guitar: NEW YORK — The Naked Cowboy of Times Square says he's dropping out of the race for New York mayor.

Robert "Bob" Burck is a tourist attraction known for strumming his guitar in the square while wearing only briefs and a cowboy hat.

He entered the mayoral race in July with the slogan, “Nobody has done more with less.”

But now, he says he's had enough of the red tape that goes with a mayoral run.

He says the last straw came when the city's Conflicts of Interest Board fined him $250 for failing to file a required financial disclosure form.

Mr. Burck says the only way to be taken seriously is to appear in a suit and tie.

:pointlol: "And away he goes...skidmarks and all," said a Times Squar...
