Coke, deodorant, Cadbury's, and Peter Murphy by BC on Nov 20, 2009
:horn: There used to be a time when no self-respecting musician would ever bow to corporate pressure and allow their songs to be used to advertise products.

Those days are definitely over, and never more so with the news that Coca-Cola is looking at "incentivising" buskers on the London Underground to include its Holidays Are Coming jingle in their repertoire over the festive period.

Ocean City's boardwalk to limit pitches by BC on May 20, 2009
:surprised2: Ocean City, Maryland city council passed a resolution limiting it's boardwalk buskers and street performers to two pitches "so everybody can co-exist a little bit better", said Mayor Rick Meehan. The performers lobbied against the the ordinance which would keep them away from store-fronts and benches.

In a written statement that was evidently read to the council, "If it is the intention of the council to eliminate street performing, then I urge them to pass this new ordinance", said busker Alexander Osborn whose reverse-psychology probably didn't help.

The law was passed unanimously by council members. The boardwalk is a well-known beach hangout and visited by over 2.4 million tourists a year. The performers were successful in making one change, however. They can...

More stunning retro pics of London street performers by BC on Mar 1, 2019
 (LONDON) Striking photographs from nearly 70 years ago show some of London’s most colourful street performers wowing the crowds in the mid-20th Century.
london-sun.jpg
The incredible images at the Sun display a fearless acrobat flinging themselves through a small head-height hoop, a Charlie Chaplin impersonator ‘snake charming’ in front of a captive audience, and disabled ex-servicemen performing to the passing crowds.

Another stunning photo shows a banjo player being ably assisted by his pet pooch and a gentleman quietly concentrating as he plays a tune on what appears to be a Zither – a stringed instrument which is fiercely difficult to master.

The shots capture a post-war Britain, still labouring under rationing laws but blinking in the light of a blossoming economy.

No dancing, singing, playing musical instruments... by BC on Nov 26, 2009
:scrooge: (LONDON) You won't believe how Biggin Hill Airport Byelaws have been revised. The Honorable Elvis impersonator Dave Quinn (pictured) has been shown the door.

Quote:
"No person shall sing, dance, shout, play a musical instrument, operate a portable music machine or behave in such a way as to give reasonable cause for annoyance to any other person(s) on the Airport."
Wingwalkers will be dismayed at the "No person shall enter or climb upon any part of any Aircraft." It is also an offence to leave a vehicle in the car park without the handbrake on. Beggars should stay away and buskers, trendy on the Tube, are a strict no-no. Casual gambling is frowned upon, even a gentleman's bet.

Absolutely no buskers or even beggars!
