PostPosted: May 22, 2008
BuskIt is an exciting event in it's 4th year at Matlock Live and is designed to be fun for both the performers and audience alike.

Each busker (or group of buskers) will be given a pitch either within Hall Leys Park or in Matlock Town Centre, (Derbyshire), between 1 - 6:30 pm on Saturday June 21st 2008. We hope there will be 30-40 buskers / street performers (possibly more) performing either all afternoon / evening or in shifts.

We are looking for buskers and aspiring street performers of all ages, including: musical performance's, clowning, comedy, improvisation, balloon modelling, dance, acrobatics, contortions & escapes, juggling, magic, fire eating, sword swallowing, snake charming, fortune-telling, street theatre, street art (sketching and painting, etc.), puppeteering, storytelling, poetry recital, mime or living statues.

Buskers will be provided with a container in which to collect money – and all proceeds will go to the nominated charities, Aqua Box & (tbd). The spirit of the afternoon will be one of enjoyment, fun and participation.

Please contact me at: matlocklive@googlemail.com for more information Matlock Live Presents "Arts in the Park" Matlock Live's summer event this year takes place on Saturday and Sunday 21st and 22nd June and will again be centred on Hall Leys Park in the centre of Matlock. The theme for this year is 'Young People and the Environment'. Most events will be free.

For early risers Saturday kicks off with a Breakfast Birdsong Walk along the river Derwent at 6.00 am and the environment theme will continue with a number of displays which will be available from 10.00 am. Craft workshops will include hands on opportunities for children to get involved in drumming, well dressing and circus skills among others and the environment theme continues with a solar challenge in the afternoon where children will be invited to make and race their own solar powered vehicle. There will be Maypole and Morris Dancing and the Wirksworth Wind Band will be performing in the bandstand at 1.00pm.

Saturday afternoon will feature 'BuskIt' a busking trail across the park and throughout the town and this year we are raising funds for the Aquabox charity (please contact matlocklive@googlemail.com for a sign up form).

We will be hosting a showcase of new up and coming bands at the Imperial Rooms from 6.30 in the evening and then at 9.30 we plan to have an open air screening of the film 'Grease' in the park. Events will continue on Sunday from 10.00am with more displays, workshops and performances, including personal portraiture, pottery and Belly Dancing. Again the emphasis will be very much on having a go.

There will be repeated performances of 'The Meeting' the latest offering from First Movement as well as the return of the popular Wirksworth Community Orchestra at about 1.00 pm. This will be followed by an outdoor performance by the 1623 Theatre Company which focuses on Shakespeare's comedies and Dale Diva; the recently formed female acapella group will close proceedings at about 4.00 pm.
