Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2011

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2011 is looking for street musicians & buskers to participate in "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" — a performance artwork designed by artist Kevin Schmidt. The project will take place on Saturday, October 1st to sunrise on Sunday, October 2nd. "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" is a performance that will feature you, the musicians whose everyday performances bring culture and vitality to the streets
of Toronto.

For this artwork, Kevin is designating up to 50 busking performance spots along a 30 block stretch of Yonge Street, closed to vehicle traffic for the night. The performance will run overnight (from 7pm-7am) with scheduled performance shifts lasting 3 hours each. Participating musicians will be required to play from a specified set of pop and rock covers that can be interpreted artistically according to each
participating musician. We are looking for street musicians and buskers from a wide range of musical genres, either instrumental or vocal.

On the night of October 1st crowds will throng down Yonge Street to enjoy your musical talents. Over the course of many blocks, they will hear many versions of the same songs, and will come to understand that
all of this entertainment has a common purpose, that each individual musician is working together with others on a larger project. The set of songs is yet to be determined but will focus on themes of longing
and hopefulness (especially after a night of excess) exemplified by the titular song "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" by the Shirelles.

For participating, you will be paid an honorarium, and will also be able to "pass the hat" to the crowd. You will also have access to a green room, for complimentary food and drink during scheduled breaks.

To apply: please send a note of interest, a resume and audio or video if available by July 18, 2011 to
scotiabanknuitblanche@toronto.ca with the subject line: "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" Auditions will be scheduled.

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche is a free, annual, city-wide celebration of contemporary art. In 2011, the event will take place from sunset on Saturday, October 1st to sunrise on Sunday, October 2nd, 2011. This
festival encourages the public to explore the unique side of Toronto through public art commissions, all-night exhibitions, live performances and creative art programs featured throughout the city. All related
projects and commissioned art installations are pre-planned and produced by the City of Toronto's Special Events department.

Since 2006, the event has proven to be enormously popular with both local and out-of-town audiences. Of the nearly one million people in attendance last year, nearly 140,000 tourists came to Toronto specifically to attend the event. This year's popular all-nighter will feature more than 130 projects created by nearly 500 artists.
