BUSKING ON THE BANKS APPEAL FOR BUSKERS TO PERFORM HEAD TO HEAD AT LOCH LOMOND SHORES

The life of a busker is a hard one; honing the perfect act, finding a suitable pitch and most importantly, fending that pitch off from other performers are all constant hurdles. And of course, on top of all that – they have to earn a crust. It’s a dog eat dog world for street performers but one company is creating a haven where buskers can make a living without being moved on or having to defend their pitch.

Loch Lomond Shores, the shopping and visitor attraction, is inviting buskers of all kinds; musicians, dancers, jugglers, comedians, children’s entertainers and magicians to come to the Bonny Banks and show the crowds what they can do. There are four permanent pitches up for grabs and the most successful buskers over the bank holiday weekend (22nd and 23rd September 23rd) will secure a place at one of the highly coveted spot for the next year. Buskers can perform their routine for up to 90 minutes and the four acts that make the most amount of money will win a regular busking slot at Loch Lomond Shores, Balloch. In addition to wowing the crowds – there is also the chance to impress a talent scout from the entertainment industry. One of Scotland’s biggest entertainment agencies is sending along a representative to source new talent from around the country – this could be someone’s big break.

Clare Gemmell, Centre Manager, Loch Lomond Shores mentions, “Visitors to Loch Lomond Shores tend to spend more time looking around the shops, having coffee, and of course, taking in the scenery than they do in the city centre when time is often of the essence. Loch Lomond Shores is the ideal location for buskers to engage with shoppers while creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Scotland has produced some fantastic entertainers from The Fratellis to Lulu and some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry started off their careers as buskers including Rod Stewart, Dolly Parton and Eric Clapton. If any of the performers that come along on the bank holiday weekend are anywhere near as good as they are, we’d be delighted. And I’m sure the talent scout would be, too!”

Anyone wishing to take part needs to pre-register by e-mailing their name and description of their act to DADA on elaine.mclaren@dada.co.uk Loch Lomond Shores, Balloch, G83 8QL 01389 750 760 www.lochlomondshores.com For more information: Elaine McLaren / DADA / 0141 222 2266 / 07946715204 / elaine.mclaren@dada.co.uk
