Curious - but don't know where to start? by BC on Sep 1, 2017
:stilts: (WWW) Contrary to popular belief, it's probably better to have no talent whatsoever when first starting off busking. This is great news for those just starting.

If you want to get involved with busking but don't know where to start, this information will prove invaluable to you. However, if you're a musician of several years, you'll probably want to use your talent to produce music.

Musicians are the most popular, the most talented, and least paid. Unless you have professional tapes and cd's produced ready to sell, the muse faces the task of entertaining a walk-by audience for tips then selling cd's. The best pass the hat. Musicians take years to perfect their craft. Some stay with it and become excellent artists while many give up and pursue other venues. Musicians also usually sing so they must...

:artist: (NEW YORK) The Bristol, England street artist known as Banksy has struck again and even again and again in New York City causing quite a stir in the past few weeks.
banksy.jpg
It turns out the artist in residency has a goal of unveiling one street-art piece a day. Featured a few years ago in the Busker Central film review of "Exit thru the gift shop", Banksy is wanted by British Telephone for destroying a phone booth by making a piece of art out of it.

To those who like, it's art - pure and simple. To those that don't, it's graffiti. Some erase it in hours. Others immediately preserve it behind plexiglas. Street buskers to fill Kolkata air this Christmas by BC on Dec 6, 2018
:busker: (INDIA) An article from the Media India Group has some insight that reveals a history of busking.
street-artist-Jaisalmir_sm.jpg
This year buskers are expected to turn the celebratory tune up a notch in Kolkata.

"India also has a rich tradition of street performers. Many renowned artists were known to be inspired by the creation of humble street musicians.

A man with a pointed mustache and colourful elaborate turban playing Ravanhatta (ancient instrument) on the streets of Jaisalmer is a common sight.

Similarly, mystic minstrels of Bengal or locally known as Bauls stroking their Dotara (musical instrument) in the shadowed streets of Shantiniketan (small town in West Bengal) are part and parcel of the cultural scene."

Indians have been busking before it became cool!
